Wreck-It-Ralph is about video games, and stars its own original character, but these promo images for the upcoming Disney movie barely feature him at all. Instead, front and centre on this series of theatrical posters are guys like Sonic and, awesomely, M. Bison and Zangief.
This movie seems like the definition of pandering. It's the only non-traditionally animated Disney movie to generate as much hype as a Pixar movie and I think that's because people are expecting this to be the second coming of Roger Rabbit. It seems really weird that they would go out of their way to license a bunch of classic video game characters and then fill the world with made-up video game characters. Was that laziness, lack of budget, or what? And then they decide to hit up what's popular music wise in every territory by having Skrillex, Owl City, and AKB48 do original songs for the movie when none of them are really related to video games.
To me it looks like they had an original movie idea with a lot of heart that the marketing department saw as a big ol' window of opportunity to sell sell sell.
If it winds up being good I'll see it, other than that I think I'll pass
