Bethesda RPGs used to be infamous for launching on PlayStation consoles with all sorts of bugs and glitches. Starfield appears to be reviving that legacy, with some issues being so bad that players are already shelving the game or begging for refunds until they get fixed.
“I’m getting crashes every 2 minutes,” began one thread posted on the Starfield subreddit over the weekend (via Eurogamer). “Tried everything. Delete saves. Tried performance 30 and 60 fps. Delete the game n redownload it. And its still happening. Every other game is working fine and I never had any crashes. Its just starfield…this is not acceptable. They should refund us!”
Other players in the thread list similar issues, especially for save files further into the game. While not everyone is facing crashes, the bugs, ranging from slowdowns to complete freezes, appear to be affecting players on both base PS5 and PS5 Pro. “Yeah I’ve shelved it,” wrote one player. “I’ve called their tech support line and left a message and submitted a ticket.”
Ok Starfield on PS5 Pro crashed again.
This time about 1 hour in.Settings: Performance, 60, Vsync On

They continued, “I have done every single troubleshooting step and it’s the only game I own that hard freezes like this constantly. Feel seriously ripped off. I want to play it because I like what I actually did get to play but this is actually bs.”
Another player claimed this was their worst experience with a Bethesda game since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on PS3. Others are simply disappointed with the state of the port after such a long wait. It’s been nearly three years since the planet-hopping sci-fi RPG came to Xbox Series X/S and PC, and despite some issues at launch it ran surprisingly well for a Bethesda game.
That’s not been the case for the PS5 port so far. Even Digital Foundry‘s analysis identified a surprising number of bugs it said need to be addressed ASAP. While there’s a day-one update for Starfield on PS5, it doesn’t appear to address the crashes and save issues, with some players calling for a hotfix as soon as possible. The new console version of the game arrived alongside a big free update for the other platforms and the new Terran Armada expansion, so Bethesda likely has its hands full at the moment.
