DISCUSSION

Jesus, some people will complain about anything. Just because this award show is on Spike TV, it's automatically written off as worthless and pointless. Get over yourselves. Over the years, this show has improved by leaps and bounds. Do any of you even watch it? At all? No. You probably just say it's retarded and don't even tune in.

You say it's just a bunch of overhyped games that're listed, but look at that list and tell me where a bad game is. I dare you. Find one.

. . . I'm waiting . . .

Oh wait, there isn't one. They're all top notch, AAA titles worthy of nomination. Maybe you're burnt out on Modern Warfare 2 hype. So am I! That doesn't make it a bad game at all though. Bad games don't have a MetaCritic average of 95%. Overhyped? Yes. Bad? Hell no. Get over it.

It's not a bad award show just because some good-but-flawed, lesser known game you really liked didn't make the cut.

Could the choices be a little better? Yeah. Make "best graphics" include art direction instead of raw power. 'Cuz really, Uncharted 2 has the category locked down right now. There's no point in other nominees even being included. But throw Muramasa and Fat Princess into the mix and you've got an interesting selection.

And the famous-people-only VA selection is quite stupid as well. Still, overall, it's not bad. And just because it's Spike doesn't mean CoD is going to win everything. Going back to my, "You people have probably never even watched the show before" comment, look at this: A HALO GAME HAS NEVER WON THEIR GAME OF THE YEAR AWARD.

That alone says it all. Past GotY winners include: GTA4, Bioshock, Oblivion: ES4, and Resident Evil 4. Tell me, where are the Halos and CoDs? For fuck sakes, Media Molecule won Studio of the Year last year. Not Infinity Ward/Treyarch. Not Valve, not Bungie, none of them. Media fuckin' Molecule.

I don't think you guys give gamers enough credit. Most of the Bro Gamers playing CoD4 and Madden 10 aren't the ones logging on to [Spike.com] and voting. Those of us sitting on our PCs and reading gaming blogs are the ones making our voices heard.

The show isn't perfect and still has a lot of flaws, but it's grown from the absolute trainwreck it used to be into a very solid award show. You need only look at it's past history to see where it started ('03) to where we are now (this post):
