Peter Parker’s about to be busy for a bit, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters this week, and then the webslinger will join many other Marvel heroes in the ring in Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls next week. And if you’re in a swinging mood and feel like going back to Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2, the game is getting a free update to celebrate the launch of both the movie and Tōkon.
The update adds two new suits to Peter’s wardrobe. One is based on his costume in Brand New Day, the other is a cel-shaded take like the one he has in Tōkon.
It's a Brand New Day for Marvel's Spider-Man 2! 🕷️
Get TWO NEW SUITS for Peter Parker in today's update, including the Fresh Start and the Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls suits.

Insomniac has added suits from Spider-Man films before, and Marvel loves brand synergy, so it’s not really a surprise that the Brand New Day suit is coming to the game. It looks like it’s glitching a bit in some scenes as Peter’s hair seeps through the mask, though, and it also looks like the blues on the suit don’t match in some shots.

The Tōkon one is kind of funny because it includes the cartoony look it has in the fighting game, which is juxtaposed against the photorealistic look of the game as a whole. It’s especially goofy-looking during scenes in which Peter takes off his mask and you see his not–Tom Holland face poking out of what looks like a costume plucked out of a comic book panel. The proportions of his busty build against the twink face are crazy.
This isn’t the only time Insomniac is collaborating with Marvel Tōkon developer Arc System Works to bring the game’s supersuits into its games. Wolverine will also have a costume based on Logan’s Tōkon appearance after it launches in September, and the proportions on it are also kind of wack. I will not be using it but more power to those who want to play with what feels like a cel-shaded shitpost.
