The people have spoken. Spoken angrily. And Sony have listened, removing the worst of the in-game advertising from WipeOut HD only 24 hours after it was first officially announced.

"The ad has been removed from WipEout HD", a Sony rep told Eurogamer, "and we are investigating the situation to ensure that any in-game advertising does not affect gameplay".

Note this doesn't mean all advertising in the game has been removed; only the ad that was causing the annoying, increased load times.

Good move. I don't mind passive in-game advertisement, like if I am playing a street racing game and I see a billboard with an ad, that's fine, because in real life, you get the same thing. Or like in Prototype, all those adds didn't bother me because New York City is full of ads anyway, and really in a strange way enhance the realism. You could even show video adds somewhere on a TV placed around a level, once again, it makes sense, it's non-intrusive, and hell, it mimics real life, but it doesn't effect your gameplay, you see it and you keep on going without a hitch. However, intrusive in-game advertisement like what was shown in WipeOut HD that you are forced to sit through before you can actually play or interrupt your play, now that I have issues with.

I can probably only take it in 1 vs. 100, but 1 vs. 100 is designed to be a game show, and is in fact live, so it just comes with the territory.
