During an interview with Fortune Magazine, SCEA's charming CEO Jack Tretton discussed the company's business strategies...and then indulged in some nasty smack talk.

"If you're really going to sustain technology for a decade, you have to be cutting edge when you launch a platform," Tretton explains to the business mag. Reasonable enough.

But the Playstaion chief goes on to take potshots at his competitors, calling motion gaming "cute" and stating his impression that the technologies powering the 360 and the Wii are quickly becoming irrelevant.

Something has been bothering me for a while now concerning Sony's attitude, and I think I've figured out why.

It seems that every time someone takes potshots at another company, it's always Sony who's doing the trash talk or the insults.

Why, I kept thinking, why must Sony try to convince us that their goods are better, and their competitors "suck"?

It is as if Sony doesn't believe in co-existence with it's competitors, as if Sony wants us to choose between Nintendo, Microsoft, Apple or Sony.

It's like the option for consumers to own both a Wii and a PS3, or both a 3DS and NGP, unacceptable to them.

surely they do realize that by insulting the Wii and NDS being childish, they're also insulting the hundreds of millions of Wii and NDS owners?

unless ofcourse if they're purposefully trying to make you feel idiotic for buying Nintendo stuff, and that you should denounce Nintendo products and instead side with Sony's "more mature" products.

that attitude of "if you're not our friend, then you're our enemy. there can be no co-existence" is quite troubling to me.

I find myself thinking, when Nintendo won the market before, competitors still existed, there was a level of co-existence, customers still had choice.

But if Sony ever wins the market, it would be in line with their current attitude to go out of their way and destroy the competitors, maybe through slander or lawsuits (suits their current behavior).

It is that attitude that Sony is giving out, "either buy our stuff or buy theirs, owning both is not acceptable. btw, buying their stuff means you're stupid", that bothers me to no end.

just my personal feelings here, so calm down please.
