Oh boy. Last time we saw the fan-made project looking to bring 1992's classic Genesis title Sonic 2 kicking and screaming into the 21st century was in 2008. Things have improved since then.
The game broke cover over the weekend for its full, proper reveal, complete with teaser trailer (below) and promise of an alpha release sometime in Q1 2011.

Since 2008 the project has been almost entirely re-worked, with a new engine leading to new art assets and an improvement in visuals we're all appreciative of.

This is the second fan-made effort to release a 2D Sonic the Hedgehog game we've seen in only a few months, both of which look a lot more promising than the disappointing Sonic 4.
