The world's largest dedicated video game retailer recently started selling GameStop-branded Android tablets, and now they've got their first exclusive, scoring Sonic CD a full month ahead of its wide release.
GameStop's branded versions of the Acer Iconia, ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, and Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets come bundled with gamepad support and a bevy of free downloadable games, all part of the company's plan to market their own line of gaming devices. Being a major power in video game retail has its perks, like getting Sega's hedgehog-powered CD classic earlier than any other platform. Due out in December for Xbox Live Arcade, the PlayStation Network, PC digital download, iOS, and Android devices, Sonic CD is available now on GameStop's full tablet line. Just drop a couple hundred bucks and it's yours.
"After 20 years of working with Sonic the Hedgehog, you would think we have learned how quickly he moves, and how impatient he can get," said Haruki Satomi, Senior Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA of America. "We just could not wait to share the classic look and sound of Sonic CD's cherished gameplay and characters. GameStop customers will get to be the first to see the efforts that have gone into restoring this title for a new digital generation, and we know they are going to enjoy the results."
Other games that come free with the GameStop tablets include Dead Space, Re-Load, Monster Madness, Riptide GP, Cordy, and GameStop's own Kongregate Arcade app.
I'll just wait until I can play it on my phone, thanks!
