Nintendo has revealed more info on Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, including the game’s release date: September 17th. Fortune’s Weave will be the anime tournament arc edition of the Fire Emblem series, featuring the Heroic Games in which the winner is granted a wish by the gods. There are four protagonists—Cai, Theodora, Dietrich, and Leda—each of them fighting for their own dreams in tactical RPG action. It seems the game will let you eventually choose one hero to guide through the tournament, and I’m looking forward to the weeks of fandom conversation about which one has committed war crimes the least. (Spoiler alert: it’ll probably be none of them.)

As in previous Fire Emblem games, players will be able to take a break from the story to get to know the world around them. Between battles, you’ll be able to recruit NPCs to your cause, hone your skills in a practice arena, or go exploring to find treasure and weapon upgrades. It also looks like Sothis from Three Houses has returned with an updated look, perhaps to impart more godly boons to her chosen champions yet again. I’m looking forward to a series refresh after the underwhelming Fire Emblem Engage. I can do tactical RPG combat for hours on end if the story is interesting, but Engage simply didn’t have that. The new setting, with a premise that’s a fandom favorite for a reason, gives me hope that Fortune’s Weave will fill the giant hole Three Houses left behind and Engage couldn’t fill. I’m looking forward to seeing if I’m right when Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave launches September 17th.
