After spending some time in Early Access on Steam, RuneScape Dragonwilds arrived on consoles last week alongside a big 1.0 update. On PS5 and Xbox, the game is being well-received by fans. However, over on Nintendo’s Switch 2, things aren’t going quite as well, with players complaining about blurry visuals and ugly graphics. The devs behind the survival game are aware of these issues and are promising to fix up this version, though it might take some time.
Not long after RuneScape: Dragonwilds arrived on Switch 2, reports started coming in from players who were disappointed with the game’s visuals. While most agreed the survival crafter had a stable framerate, many weren’t happy about the overall visual presentation, with shadows and lights in particular looking rough on Nintendo’s machine, and blurriness when playing on a TV. On Thursday, in response to these complaints, developer Jagex posted a lengthy note to Switch 2 owners on Twitter.
“The Switch 2 build is not where we want it to be today, visually,” said Jagex. “As a dev team, and as Nintendo fans, we are not fully satisfied with where the game is on Nintendo Switch 2 and we are committed to work on improving the visuals. Dragonwilds support is a long-term commitment for Jagex, and so is the Switch 2 version of our game.”
Jagex says it’s happy with the game’s framerate on Switch 2, but is working on improving image clarity and an engine overhaul. However, the studio warned that “it will take time” and that these changes won’t arrive in one tidy update. Instead, improvements will come at an “incremental” rate.
“What we can promise is that we will update the game whenever we find that we’ve made visual improvements,” said Jagex. “Expect this to be in the form of several patches throughout the future.”
The developer also addressed the complaints some players had that the version of Dragonwilds they got on Switch 2 doesn’t match the screenshots seen currently on the Nintendo eShop store page for the game. According to Jagex, it has already sent over new assets to Nintendo for the store page that are more representative of what the game actually looks like on Switch 2 hardware.
“We’re committed to making sure that Dragonwilds looks and plays its best on handheld consoles alongside our other platforms,” concluded Jagex. “And we hope you’ll continue to give us feedback and support as we carry our journey on beyond 1.0.”
