Nintendo is working on a new console. Square Enix is working on a new Dragon Quest. See where this is going?
This past May, Dragon Quest composer Koichi Sugiyama seemed to indicate that DQX will be out in 2012, saying, "I'm aiming for next year and am in the middle of composing music for Dragon Quest." His comment was unclear.
Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada answered questions about the game at an investors' meeting today in Tokyo.
When asked if Dragon Quest X will be released on the Wii U, Wada reportedly replied, "We are thinking that we must release the game for both the Wii and Wii U. We're currently at the point of looking at how we can make it a Wii U launch title."
Japanese blogger Alloc is quick to point out that Wada did not explicitly say "DQX on Wii U", but what he did say carried that nuance (the question Wada was asked was somewhat convoluted). Even if the game is released on the Wii U with slightly polished Wii graphics, DQ fans won't care. They just want a new Dragon Quest.
DQ creator Yuji Horii could release the game as a pen-and-paper role-playing game, and DQ fans would snap it right up.
