The Red Faction movie, which THQ and the SyFy Channel hope will pave the way for a TV series, will be called Red Faction: Origins, and will be out early next year.

March 2011 is the month you can circle in your calendar, to tune in and see the live-action story of what happens between the events of Red Faction: Guerilla and the upcoming Red Faction: Armageddon, which conveniently enough is also out in March 2011.

Don't expect much in the way of familiar faces or places, however; the story of the movie is set 25 years after that of Guerilla, and deals mostly with Alec Mason's son Jake, as he sets off on a quest to find his long-lost sister "just as a powerful new enemy swarms across the planet".

As for the talent involved, there's no word on the cast, but the screenplay has been written by Andrew Kreisberg ( Vampire Diaries and...Boston Legal), while the concept and story was developed by THQ's Paul DeMeo, who among various James Bond video game credits also wrote the script for the movie The Rocketeer.
