At Eurogamer Expo, the creative director for Rage confirmed that the game will release on three discs for the Xbox 360, and for PS3 owners, require an 8 GB install.

The three-disc release wasn't exactly a surprise. At QuakeCon, Joel reported that the game would require 21 to 22 GB of hard drive space if you installed it to your 360. That hinted at a multidisc form for sure. The 8 GB installation on the PS3 had been rumored. id's Tim Willits confirmed it for Eurogamer's Digital Foundry, and complimented Sony for its help in managing the installation and permitting one of that size.

"Sony was great. Kudos to Sony for letting us do that," Willits said. "They don't allow every game to do that. So definitely, hats off. What we were able to do is install all the textures to the highest level."

Willits said that while id Software recommends installing the game to the hard drive on the 360, "you don't need to install all three discs. If you don't have the space available on your hard drive, don't stress. Install the first disc, the first chapter, the first half of the game, then when you're done, uninstall and install disc two."

Asked to explain what that meant, Willits said: "You can go back if you want to but there's really no reason to." Also: "You don't really need to install the multiplayer disc if you're really tight on hard disk space."

Is it just more or does Rage seem a bit... generic? I'm not hating on it because of the install size, and I know it's being heralded because of it's graphics and the designers pedigree, but after seeing gameplay footage for both console and PC, I've been consistently underwhelmed by this game.

Is this just me, or do others see where I'm coming from? All the footage I've seen doesn't really get me that excited for the game. It seems like just another shooter, only minus the online features that other games in the category have.
