PS2 To Go $99

A friendly tipster has passed on this shot of Kmart's retail database. To translate, it shows the PlayStation 2, and it shows that next week the console will be reduced to $99.

The move will also, apparently, be first advertised by Kmart in a catalogue due to be circulated on April 5. Something we heard about a few weeks back.

Could this be the major announcement due on Tuesday? We certainly thought so on Friday. Now we think so a little more.

Considering the incredible amount of great games for the PS2 (certainly dwarfing the amount for the PS3), I'd say it's a great move for the budget-conscious consumer. Games can be had on the cheap for most of the library, and if you don't have a PSX, you can play those too when you find those games.

I'd buy it if I didn't already have 2 of them (my regular, thin PS2 and the phat one I found in the trash over the weekend works flawlessly; apparently the former owner upgraded to a PS3 and just threw it away instead of trading it in).
