Mega Lucario ex Mega Hyper Rare

With that same rarity of one in every 2,520 packs as the Gardevoir, the Lucario is proving even more desirable. Why? Because capitalism will destroy us all.

Even though the card is far less pretty than its incredible SIR version (a mere $286, remember), this crappy piece of art in crappy gold foil will cost you $718. Another average listing based on eBay sales has it at $771. In a PSA 10, of which only one has sold so far, it went for $3,000 on the nose.

SEVEN HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN DOLLARS!!!

Nothing makes sense any more. Rarity is fake. The Pokémon Company deliberately didn’t make enough of these, so that it would cause fervor, and everyone’s just biting down as hard as they can. By creation, based on its raw materials, this is worth perhaps 5 cents. By design for the game, you can pick up the regular ex for $2.35. If you want a fancy one, the Ultra Rare is $22. And yeah, there’s that astonishing SIR for $286. But if you’d prefer it in grim, boring gold with a generic 5ban graphics design, well, there’s your price.
