PixelJunk SideScroller is the 26th-Century 1980's Arcade Game You've Been Waiting For

PixelJunk SideScroller is a 1980's style arcade game made for the 26th-century. It's a side scrolling-shoot-em-up that exceeds in everything it attempts to pull off.

Between the style, the smooth controls and the soundtrack, PixelJunk SideScroller is everything I could have asked for in a downloadable game. Hell, it's everything I could ask for in a retail game.

You can pick up SideScroller on the PSN right now for $9.99, I would suggest you go do so.

Picked it up last night myself (only $7.99 with PS+ :] ). Fun game. Not terribly long, consisting of 12 levels, 3 of which are boss battles (at least that's what it appears to be, I'm on 3-2 and it's clear there are 3 "stages" with 4 "sectors" each. I know there are is a hard difficulty that you unlock, and the trophies indicate that there's another difficulty above that.

Considering it's an arcade-ey game that's meant to be replayed for high scores, it feels about right for the price.

The art style of the game is fantastic, and it plays great. You get a combo chain for killing enemies consecutively, which are critical for getting high scores and can make risky play pay off. In addition, when a certain weapon is maxed out, you get 10k points if you pick up a weapon upgrade with it selected. This raises the question in your mind of whether you need to level other weapons, or can get by and grab the easy points instead :P
