Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a prequel to the previous two critically acclaimed, rat-filled horror adventures, and it’s not supposed to be out for another seven days. But that hasn’t stopped the PC version from somehow leaking early. It’s hardly the first time pirates have gotten early access to a game this year.
Reports that any DRM the game had was cracked and that copies were being circulated online hit the game’s subreddit earlier today. There have since been images shared of the game’s loading screen, with several players claiming to have begun playing Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy early, while others log off in order to avoid spoilers. Images from the game have been spreading on piracy subreddits as well.
It’s not clear how the PC version broke containment a week ahead of release, but it’s far from the only major game to leak early in 2026. Some players went hands-on with Forza Horizon 6 before launch back in May, while Xbox players got access to Lego Batman ahead of schedule as well. And then there are the rest of the early leaks plaguing big games, including the opening of 007 First Light, which spread online before launch, and the current flood of unauthorized Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay clips making the rounds.
A Plague Tale Legacy doesn’t have any paid early access option and won’t unlock for fans until August 27. It’s expected to be roughly 20 hours long, and like the previous two adventure games by Asobo Studio, it is expected to be heavily narrative-driven. Unlike those first two stealth games, however, this one is an action game complete with a parry system. It’ll be available day-one on Game Pass Ultimate on console and PC.
