We had some major AAA releases this month, as well as some exciting indie games. Here are our favorite games from October.


Titanfall 2

We came for the multiplayer, but the true standout is the single player campaign, as well as Titanfall 2’s interesting UI. You can check out our tips here

This unique rhythm game is intense and gripping

Paper Mario: Color Splash

The latest Paper Mario is imaginative, confidently funny, and looks great

Endless Space 2

This Early Access game already feels complete and interesting

Dragon Quest Builders

Between the questing, exploration, city-building and gathering, we found it tough to put this game down

Mafia 3

This open world game, though occasionally frustrating, was greater than the sum of its parts (you can get some pretty cool mods for it, too). It also sparked important conversations about race in games

Gears of War 4

The latest Gears of War looks and feels great, and Horde mode is a ton of fun too.

PlayStation VR

There were a lot of launch games for the PSVR (you can watch us play some of them live here). We think the headset itself has a lot of promise

Shadow Warrior 2

This game is pretty, fast, and fun

Skylanders: Imaginators

The latest Skylanders has great character creation and adds creativity and self-expression that other toys-to-life games lack

Five Nights At Freddy’s: Sister Location

The newest installment in this very full franchise surprised us by being funny, ambitious, and suspenseful.

Really Bad Chess

This free mobile game turns chess into some ridiculous fun

Gonner

This punishing platformer has a unique look we fell hard for.

World of Final Fantasy

From its excellent standalone demo to its ridiculous Mirage Manual, we loved the simplicity of this old-school Final Fantasy game

Eagle Flight

This VR game captures the joys of flying, set in a post-apocalyptic Paris.

Battlefield 1

This visual novel about first love is strongest when it departs from the ordinary
