The picture is demonstrative of why the ergonomics of the Dualshock are so bad. The player cannot actually grip the controller and still be able to use the thumbsticks and the shoulder buttons at the same time. Using the two in concert requires cradling the controller in your middle, ring and pinky fingers, allowing zero firm grip of the controller. This causes the gripping motion of button presses to be awkward and inefficient.
Too bad Demon's Souls won't let me put the damned thing down.
