OK, So, Now Canadian Football Leaguers Are Pissed At Madden

So. We've gone through long snappers, injured running backs and unceremoniously dumped wide receivers on the list of those with Madden grievances. Is there any other class of marginal or washed-up performer with a beef? Oh yeah. Canadian football players.

In Madden NFL 11, analyst Cris Collinsworth disparages Canadian football when a kicker shanks a kickoff. "Unbelievable. The field is 53-and-a-half yards wide and he still missed it. We're going to have to send him to Canada." In the Canadian Football League, the field is 65 yards wide.

That was enough to get the poutine-eating, toque-wearing, milk-in-a-bag-buying special teamers of the Great White North in high dudgeon, as if there's any other kind of dudgeon.

"Obviously Cris has never been to Canada," Edmonton Eskimos kicker Noel Prefontaine told the hometown Edmonton Sun. "It's interesting to have that comment on a game considering that it's harder to kick up here. Another thing that contributes to it: you let me know any NFL guy that does all three (kickoffs, place kicking and punting)."

Noel needs a lesson in smack-talking. If it was me, I'd say something like, "That's a funny observation coming from a guy with the physique of a Canadian placekicker."

Other CFLers aren't as incensed. Says Etienne Boulay who, with a name like that, you know he must play for Montreal: "'The comment shouldn't be taken as an insult. We were mentioned in a video game that's loved by millions of people.'"
