Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio behind No More Heroes and the upcoming Shadows of the Damned, is working on a Neon Genesis Evangelion game for the PSP. It's not your typical Eva game.

The game is based on Rebuild of Evangelion, a remake of the original Evangelion. It's a rhythm game that will incorporate action, music, and Eva. The game's sound and music tracks are being mixed by Akira Yamaoka of Silent Hill fame, and the production is being overseen by Grasshopper's Goichi Suda.

Rebuild of Evangelion: Sound Impact's development is 85 percent finished, and the game will be out this September in Japan.

Is it too much to ask for a straight up Evangelion action game?

The franchise is as popular as Gundam worldwide. In the past five years, we've had six Gundam games on the next gen console and arcade, but Evalngenlion got what? a japan-only non game PSN title, some niche rpg/fighting/dating games for the PS2 and now this?

Seriously, everytime they release an evangelion game, it's some sort of unconventional game genre. regardless of all the philosophical bullshit, it's a real robot anime at it's core, it's about robots fighting alien invasions!

How hard is it to make an action game based on that premise? Rip off ZOE, Gundam Musou, something, but give us a giant robot action game.
