Evo co-founder Joey Cuellar says Nintendo didn't just want to stop Smash Bros. Melee being streamed from this year's fighting game competition, they wanted to stop that part of the tournament taking place altogether.

"They were not only trying to shut down the stream", he told OneMoreGameTV, "they were trying to shut down the event, the Smash portion of the event".

It was only when Evo's organisers "wig-wammed their way through" conversations with the company's legal department that Nintendo agreed to only go after the streaming portion of the event (a decision they later reversed).

We're still waiting on comment from Nintendo of America over the matter, and will update if we hear back.

meh, i don't get what's so hard to understand about this

they don't want the biggest tournament event to have MELEE, because it's giving their newer games bad PR

i mean, how bad is BRAWL, that the tourney players just ignore it and keep playing MELEE, it's bad PR no doubt about it and although they shouldn't really be caring about BRAWL anymore since it's on their last gen console, well, this is how business work

sometimes the people that's in charge of this PR/Legal kind of stuff dont even know that much about the games, they probably don't know BRAWL is garbage when it comes to competitive play and all that sort of stuff so their natural reaction is something like this
