After 23 years, one extremely dedicated F-Zero GX player has solved a mystery that fans had long considered unsolvable. By somehow uncovering cheat codes that have been buried in the 2003 GameCube release of Nintendo’s F-Zero GX from day one, a Japanese player by the name of BTEST4HE has managed to unlock all of the game’s event-only “Gold Parts.”
For context, unlocking F-Zero GX’s fan-dubbed “Gold Parts” has been a sort of white whale for the community since the game was first released. If you fancy a deep dive, I found an incredibly interesting write-up on the F-Zero fansite CGN, but the short of it is that you could only unlock these special parts by attending in-person promotional events in Japan.
Obviously, these are 20-year-old, limited-time events we’re talking about, so, outside of homebrew methods, it seemed as if these special parts were essentially lost to time–until now.

As discovered by user BTEST4HE in a post on X, eight unique cheat codes can be input on any version of F-Zero GX, each of which unlocks specific sets of parts that you can purchase in the in-game shop.
It doesn’t matter if you’re playing the English or Japanese version of the game, nor is this system dependent. That means that the codes work on the original GameCube version, the Nintendo Wii version, and even the Nintendo Classics version on the Nintendo Switch 2.
There is a pretty huge caveat, though. Five of the eight codes, including the ones that unlock the mythical Gold Parts, require you to input them using four controllers… simultaneously. Basically, you’re either gonna need three friends or eight arms to pull this off.
Still, it’s incredible that BTEST4HE has essentially solved a 23-year-old mystery by themselves. Actually, now that I think about it, how the hell did they even figure this out?
