My Name Is Aaron Sorkin, And You're Fired

You may have heard that Aaron Sorkin, somewhat beleaguered creator of The Newsroom, has fired his entire writing staff, save himself and his ex-girlfriend.

Away with you! All of you! You are the problem here, not me!

Given that the show has up to now been more or less a caricature of Sorkin's worst writing tics and habits, I'd be surprised if one of these randos was actually responsible for its suckitude. But hey, a shakeup can only help, right? Maybe he'll leave himself in charge with sole authorship of every tiny detail, George Lucas-style. That's never gone wrong in the past, after all.

Thing is, the show has been picked up for a second season, and I'm not 100% convinced that it can't somehow become decent, even good. I've been re-watching The West Wing on and off, and while I see a whole lot more flaws now than I did the first time I watched it, you've gotta admit—the man knows how to make a good episode of TV.

Are there many Sorkin fans out there? What do you guys think of The Newsroom? Do you think it might be more interesting if they made the show about Gawker? Do you like it as much as Dan Rather does?

Go ahead and chat about that, or anything else, here or in the Talk Amongst Yourselves forum. Have good discussions, and a fine weekend.
