Meet Godzilla Resurgence's Motion Capture Actor

This is Mansai Nomura. He’s a famed Japanese stage and film actor. He also did the CG motion capture for Godzilla Resurgence.

In a recent press conference, Nomura revealed he played the film’s title character.

Nomura does Kyogen, which is a comic style of theater that is related to, but different from, Noh theater.

For Resurgence, Nomura was in charge of how Godzilla moved.

So uh, why’d they put him on a greenscreen? It’s not like they’re gonna be using any of that direct footage in the movie itself, all they need is the motion data from the mo-cap suit.
