It’s been a minute since I checked in on Marvel Rivals, but I still see trailers for the new heroes and gooner skins now and then. Nothing has piqued my interest enough to get me to return to the hero shooter, especially as Overwatch 2 has gotten its head mostly on straight. Enter Daredevil, the blind hero who uses echolocation to track down his enemies. He’s the game’s next Duelist hero, and the team at NetEase has done some incredibly clever stuff to adapt his many strengths and weaknesses to the game.
One of the big reasons I’ve fallen off Marvel Rivals has been the same-y hero design it’s been exhibiting of late, especially as far as the supportive Strategists are concerned. Daredevil’s melee-based kit may not be that distinct at a glance, but NetEase going so far as distorting the player’s vision at a certain distance to emulate the character’s blindness is one of the coolest touches the team has come up with thus far.

The trade-off is that he’s able to “see” through walls using echolocation, so you can spot flankers or anyone who might be hanging out behind cover. This includes invisible characters like Invisible Woman, Psylocke, and Loki, who can obscure themselves from most other characters and get around without being detected.
It’s been a while since I hopped on Rivals, and most days I don’t miss it. I definitely miss how it felt to have a hero shooter that all my friends played, though, even those who bounced off Overwatch 2. Daredevil may finally bring me back when he launches on October 10. I’ve at least gotta take him for a test run. I wonder if Star-Lord and Mr. Fantastic are still any good. They were my mains earlier this year, but I haven’t kept my eye on the balance patches as of late. I’ll report back.
