This week, one Japanese Twitter user Sativa_high decided to turn eggplants, cucumbers, and a bunch of toothpicks into vehicles from Mad Max: Fury Road. This was to welcome his dead ancestors back to this world. And what a welcome!
During August in Japan, Obon is when the spirits of people’s ancestors return to this world. To welcome the spirits, people make little stands out of eggplants and cucumbers. Like so:

As travel site Matcha explains, the cucumber represents a horse and the eggplant represents a cow. The hope is that the spirits come back quickly on a vacation, but leave on the much slower cow. That way, family members can spend more time with their ancestors.

Sativa_high wrote that the Mad Max vegetable vehicles were made for Obon so that ancestors would come via “eggplant fury road.”
