A LittleBigPlanet spin-off called Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves will be out this December for download to the PlayStation 3. It's multiplayer-only, requires a Move controller and... it's not clear if you'll have to pay for it.
Sony's PlayStation blog shares the details of what essentially is a 10-level co-op mission pack set in prehistoric times and full of dinosaurs. Here's some official hype: "Put on your bear skins and grab up to four friends to navigate the tough terrain of the tropical jungle dodging erupting volcanoes and other environmental hazards standing in your way."
Up to four players will control versions of LBP hero Sackboy using standard PS3 controllers. The other will use a PlayStation Move wand to flick switches and trigger platforms to aid each Sackboy along. The game goes on sale on December 14, for $6, but not for everyone. PlayStation Plus subscribers get it for free a week earlier. Other "thousands LittleBigPlanet supporters" will also get the game for free, but how and when, Sony hasn't said yet. And if you buy LBP2 in January when it comes out? You get it on the disc, suggesting that maybe this game is what those Move-only LittleBigPlanet 2 levels were all along.
That's the new spin-off. As for LittleBigPlanet 2 itself, a demo for the game will be out on the PlayStation 3 next month for download.
