Look At This Magic: The Gathering Cosplay

That’s not a specific character. It’s a suit of armour made entirely out of Magic cards. Made by TechnicolorTraveler, it consists not only of a full suit (helmet, gauntlets, boots, etc) but a sword and shield as well. Oh, and also a cape! All of them made out of Magic cards. In case you were…

Oh Hey, Battlefield Heroes Is Coming Back

Battlefield Heroes, my favourite Battlefield game, died an inglorious death when it tried to walk a free-to-play tightrope and fell clean off. It was a cool game with incredible visuals, though, so of course a group of fans have salvaged the code and brought it back. Revive, who have already done similar work with Battlefields…

I don’t think anyone’s ever looked at Counter-Strike and said, “Man, I really wish that was a fighting game,” but Chris Le’s video might change some minds. It re-imagines CSGO as a hyper over-the-top fighter with juggle combos, supers, and even an announcer. No, it’s not and probably never will be playable, but it’s fun…

A Bold New Overwatch Strategy: Being Nice

Become a better Overwatch player with this one neat trick: being nice. You’ll get results almost instantly! “Think about all the times somebody’s said something negative to you in the game and imagine now if somebody had said something positive to you instead,” Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan said in a recent video. Some (myself included)…

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite‘s Collector’s Edition Is Disappointing

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite releases tomorrow and has a sizable collector’s edition. The package includes a number of goodies, including statues and replicas, but some fans are rethinking the $200 price point after seeing early images of its questionable Infinity Stones. In addition to a copy of the game, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s Collector Edition…

Divinity: Original Sin 2 Let Me Turn A Giant Boss Into A Chicken

Divinity: Original Sin 2 pro tip: when all else fails, try turning your enemies into chickens. Seriously. Warning: slight Divinity: Original Sin 2 spoilers ahead. Things were actually going pretty well until a giant worm from The Void popped out of the earth. I wouldn’t say I was fighting a flawless battle against Bishop Alexander,…

Fans Love D.va’s Deathwing-Themed Skin For Heroes Of The Storm

A new skin for D.va in Heroes of the Storm was revealed over the weekend, and it’s themed around World of Warcraft’s Deathwing the Destroyer. Fans cannot stop drawing it. In Overwatch D.va is depicted as a feminine, cute gamer girl. With her bunny motif and pink mech, she’s a decidedly girly character. Seeing her…

Octopath Traveler‘s Switch Demo Is A Blast Of JRPG Goodness

Last week, Square Enix surprise-released a demo of the upcoming role-playing game Octopath Traveler, and you will be pleased to hear that it’s excellent. The best part? Nobody can complain that it’s not coming to Switch. The full version of Octopath Traveler won’t be out on Nintendo Switch until 2018, but for now, you can…

Epic Accidentally Allows Xbox And PS4 Cross-Play In Fortnite, Disables It [UPDATE]

Oops, it looks like for a brief few hours PS4 and Xbox One cross-play was available in Fortnite. Now, Fortnite developer Epic Games says that feature was actually a bug, which the studio is referring to as a “configuration issue” that it says it has fixed. Console cross-play opens up games’ player bases so friends…

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider: The Kotaku Review

Dishonored has always been about the journey more than the destination, discovering secrets in its levels and finding creative ways to fulfill its objectives. Death of the Outsider, the game’s new standalone DLC, stays true to this strength. It doesn’t reinvent the game, but it doesn’t need to. Narratively, Death of the Outsider fits with…

Dragon Ball FighterZ Makes It Easy To Fight Like A Super Saiyan

This weekend I spent hours playing Dragon Ball FighterZ in a closed beta on Kotaku’s Twitch channel. The game is gorgeous, but I’m more impressed with the number of tricks and tools it gives players to turn a match around. I’m an intermediate fighting game player at best. There’s something about the fine motor control…

Black Mirror’s ‘San Junipero’ Is Great Television Because Of Its Optimism

Charlie Brooker’s body of work is defined by its pessimism. From the pointed critique of lazy hipster irony in Nathan Barley to the gory satire of reality shows depicted in Dead Set, his work pinpoints the worst of humanity. Black Mirror continues that bleak trend, sometimes to the point of parody. Last night, Brooker won…

A Melodramatic Game About Foxes

You are a mother fox who awakes to find that your three babies have disappeared. As you set off through the vast wilderness to find them, a voice begins to speak. It’s the voice of a man named Joseph. At first he talks about your journey, but then the focus switches to his own story.…

Sure Looks Like This Guy Won Battlegrounds While AFK

It looks like one ludicrously lucky Battlegrounds player managed to be the last one standing and win the game, all while AFK. In survival shooter Battlegrounds, the playable area constricts around a seemingly random point on the map. The game’s inherent tension is that, to stay alive, players must travel to the playable area, thereby…

Do You Stand While You Play The Switch?

At my birthday party this weekend, I brought out my Nintendo Switch so I could be as cool as all those people in the commercials. Just like the people in the commercials, we all ended up standing while playing games, as well. It was super weird. On Saturday night, after I hooked up my Switch…
