Konami's X-Men Arcade Classic Headed For XBLA And PSN [Update]

At a Comic-Con New York panel, Marvel revealed that Konami will bring X-Men, its side-scrolling arcade beat-em-up from 1992, to the Xbox 360 and PS3 as a downloadable title. [Updated with the game's Comic-Con trailer, see inside.]

Fans of the game remember that you could play as one of six X-Men: Cyclops, Colossus, Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, or Dazzler. After blasting through Sentinels and boss characters from the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, it was off to Magneto's Asteroid M to save Professor X and Kitty Pryde.

This port will feature drop-in online multiplayer supporting up to six players and variable difficulty levels.

No release date was specified. We'll have more details here as they come out.

Konami based most of the character designs for this game off the Sunbow animation produced "Pryde of the X-Men" cartoon pilot that I still think is the finest animated X-Men cartoon ever (most certainly better than that mid-90s dreck that people seem to have a fondness for).
