The menacing black box lurking within your entertainment center just got a bit less menacing, as Netflix adds the bright and colorful "Just for Kids" to the PlayStation 3 version of its streaming video app.
For those of you unfamiliar, the picture above depicts the Backyardigans, a group of singing, dancing and imagineering young animals that always find things that they've never seen before in their backyard. That's why every day they're back for more.
These little bastards are a staple of Netflix's "Just for Kids" section. Already available on the PC and Wii and coming soon to the Xbox 360, tablets, and whatever else, "Just for Kids" give parents a way to graduate from having to strictly control their children's video intake to being able to go get a damn sandwich for crying out loud, damn kids.
I am familiar with this feeling. I am also familiar with the entire Backyardigans series. My nine-month-old children, on the other hand, only stay for the opening song and then go back to finding dangerous things to put in their mouths.
So yes, now your children have a destination for child-safe programming on the PC, perfect for winding down after a long day of Modern Warfare 3.
Now it's time for us to have a snack.
