It's been a while since man/myth/legend/Doom co-creator John Romero put out a shooter. Almost ten years, in fact. Speaking with Eurogamer, Romero revealed some details on a new shooter he'll be working on soon.

Romero says he's "already kind of designed the thing," though the game isn't in production yet. He described the game as be "MMO-ish," which… well, really could mean anything.

"It's a persistent game, it has persistent player data, the character grows and gets better over time. I think most gamers expect that now anyway, but this was a design I'd done a while ago. I think it's pretty valid.

"You will be playing the game as you would expect a shooter to feel, but the specifics of your situation, narrative wrapper and reward system are all unique. I wouldn't want to give out any specifics until I'm close to shipping it. I've learned my lesson about talking too soon about specific game features and release dates."

Romero said that he's not a fan of slower-moving cover-based games that have become popular in recent years, saying that he also doesn't like it when characters are "bullet sponges" that can absorb a lot of damage.

He attributes these types of games to the rise of the slower console controller, while saying that he's "a PC mouse and keyboard type player."

Romero didn't confirm whether or not his studio, Loot Drop entertainment, is going to be making the game. Loot Drop is currently working on Ghost Recon: Commander for Facebook.
