Japanese Hardware Sales Drop, PS3 Still Beating Wii

Console sales were flat in Japan this week amid a slow batch of new releases. Hardware leaders from Sony and Nintendo were down, but Xbox 360 sales were up slightly.

With nothing new and exciting hitting the dominant platforms, Nintendo DSi and Wii sales dropped, as did PSP and PlayStation numbers. The Xbox 360 saw a slight boost, likely due to the release of 11 Eyes: Cross Over, as did the Nintendo DS and PlayStation 2.

While the PlayStation 3 outsold the Wii this week, we believe that when April is said and done, the Wii will come out on top again, thanks to Monster Hunter G, which hits April 23rd. We’ll see how close that race is though.

Nintendo DSi – 53,680

PSP – 48,118

PlayStation 3 – 20,362

Wii – 15,525

Nintendo DS Lite – 8,729

Xbox 360 – 7,812

PlayStation 2 – 5,394
