Sony's PSP handheld has recorded its biggest weekly hardware sales in Japan since its 2005 launch, thanks to a monster title from Capcom.

Going on sale in Japan on December 1, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd moved over 2.14 million copies in its first week on sale. So many people lined up.

But the game's tear through Japan doesn't stop there: Monster Hunter Portable 3rd helped shift 326,639 PSPs — a new weekly record for Japan.

Monster Hunter Portable 3rd is expected to be a "long seller" in Japan and should continue to power both PSP software and hardware sales.
