Some of my fondest memories of the PlayStation 2 era involve a pair of wacky mascot characters participating in some of the greatest gamers had ever seen. While we're waiting for a Ratchet & Clank HD Trilogy from Insomniac, Naughty Dog's gone ahead and confirmed one for Jak and Daxter.
Outed earlier this month by way of the ESRB, the Jak and Daxter Collection brings the PlayStation 2's other pair of platforming pals to the PlayStation 3 for the first time, unless you count PlayStation Move Heroes (no one does). All three of the duo's adventures will be presented on one Blu-ray disc, remastered in 720p HD with support for eye-popping stereoscopic 3D.
Ratchet & Clank fanboy-teasing aside, the Jak and Daxter games were three of the finest platforming experiences ever created. A little spit and polish and we should have another collection to slip onto the shelf next to Sly Cooper and the inevitable R&C compilation.
Isn't it fun how the PlayStation 2's biggest cartoony platform developers (Sucker Punch, Insomniac, and Naughty Dog) have gone on to craft the PlayStation 3's biggest hits (inFamous, Resistance, Uncharted)? It's probably my favorite thing about the current console generation. I love those guys.
Look for the Jak and Daxter Collection to drop in February. Screens follow.
