That's awesome that you got to talk to that University of Colorado class. That's actually where my dad went to college. He studied music, though.
Do agree that writing is important. Also, luck, luck is key. I feel I've been super fortunate — being introduced by a friend to my current editor at Wired. Another Contributing Editor at Wired, Brendan Koerner (who wrote this AMAZING book — everyone really should buy a copy) introduced me to Gawker Media. Then, there's luck involved in pitching the right stories to the right editor at the right time. Luck's a huge factor. I'm sure you feel the same way.
Granted, I'm a strong believer of making one's own luck... A good way to do that? Write a lot and be lucky. :)
Speaking of luck, man, I've been having rotten luck with Firefox. It's been crashing like crazy on me — several times a day, easy. Is this happening to you? How can I stop it?
