Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima is about to turn fifty. Hard at work on a new game and a new game engine, he sure doesn't seem like he's slowing down.

Kojima's next game is currently titled Project Ogre. In it, Kojima said he will "deal quite a few issues that are pretty delicate and taboo."

Kojima, who was recently at the Smithsonian's Art of Video Games exhibit, added, "I'm not sure if they'll end up being in the final product or not, but that's something that I want to continue to strive for."

One of the things it appears he isn't striving for is getting that game on the Wii U. This, however, seems to be due to the Wii U's interface as Kojima said the way players interact with the upcoming Nintendo console is "very different" so he'd have to make a unique title suitable for the Wii U. Fair enough!

That doesn't mean the Fox Engine—the new game engine Kojima Productions is developing—is specific to only certain platforms. It's not.

Also during his Q&A session at the Smithsonian, Kojima beat his standard drum—that he's not just the Metal Gear guy. He also said he's going to make games until the day he dies. I guess he just doesn't want to make only Metal Gear games?

"I don't have any problem with Kojima Productions being equated with Metal Gear, but I don't like, necessarily, that people think that my name equals Metal Gear," said Kojima.

"Of course, I've worked on Metal Gear up to now, and I love Metal Gear. But as a creator, I want to work on new projects and create new games. I want to do new, creative things—things no one has done before. So even if I keep on producing Metal Gear, from now on, I want to have something else that I can do apart from Metal Gear. Something that pushes the boundaries, something that may not even sell, but something that's new."

That something new, it seems, is this upcoming Project Ogre. Glad to hear that Kojima is eager to branch out. No doubt players are eager for that, too.

Kojima-san doesn't have to make Metal Gear anymore. He really doesn't.
