Blizzard made a surprising move this morning in announcing a new hero being added to its MOBA Heroes of the Storm despite the game essentially being left to gather dust for four years (arguably eight). It’s Xal’atath!
Xal’atath comes from World of Warcraft, and is the current major villain of the arc we’re in. Though she has the appearance of an elf, she’s really the “Harbinger of the Void” and is currently looking to consume the planet’s soul somehow. Normal stuff!
This is huge news for HotS fans, after the game was put on sleep mode effectively back in 2022. Though the servers have remained online and active, it has received no new major updates; just occasional balance patches and bug fixes. Though there have been rumors leading up to this year’s Blizzcon, there really wasn’t an expectation until recently that HotS would ever get any major updates again.
Blizzard isn’t making too many major promises. Onstage, Blizzard president Johanna Faries thanked fans for supporting the game, and suggested there may be another new hero on the way in the near future.
Xal’atath will be available to play on Public Test Realms on Monday, and is planned for launch on September 28.
