Shin Megami Tensei IV, the latest new game in the Shin Megami Tensei series is headed for the 3DS next year, and developer Atlus has released some new information on the game.
As can be seen in the trailer that was released last month, the game characters are from a middle-ages sort of world and through some turn of events manage to find their way into modern day Tokyo. According to the official website, the characters are part of a group of warriors known as "Samurai" in a country known as "Mikado Kuni of the East" that is ruled by king "Ahazuyamikado." The Samurai are chosen through a "Gauntlet Ceremony" and wear special gauntlets that allow them to summon and control demons into battle; a technology beyond the means of their civilization. Players take the part of a young man from the village of "Kichijouji" who is chosen to be a Samurai. Strangely enough, the other members who are chosen along with him are all people he met in a strange dream.
Aside from the main cast of protagonists, Atlus has released information about two major characters in the game.
Hope—The leader who commands the Samurai. After being chosen as Samurai, the protagonists receive orders from Hope. While strict about missions, Hope is lenient about rules and regulations. Hope feels strongly about the people he has sworn to protect.
Isakal (spelling is unofficial)—Like the main character, Isakal is from the village of Kichijouji and is a close friend. Isakal travels to Castle Mikado with the main character to take part in the Gauntlet Ceremony. Isakal has a strong desire to be chosen as a Samurai.
Shin Megami Tensei IV is scheduled for release in 2013.
