Until Dawn 2 is happening, and it follows a crew of ghost hunters exploring a remote island to try and go viral online. PlayStation’s Firesprite studio is making it, and the narrative horror adventure is launching sometime in 2027.

Despite being a numbered entry, Until Dawn 2 will be a completely standalone story with a new cast, though the premise remains the same: navigate horrors and narrative choices to see which characters can survive until the sun comes up.

Here’s the trailer:

The game follows a group of content creators who have landed a TV deal and are now recording their escapades exploring a tropical island. Sony is promising a more refined choice system this time around. “How you manage relationships within the crew matters more than ever, with some branches based on where things stand between characters,” reads a PlayStation blog post. “It’s not just the huge moments, even small character moments can set off a Butterfly Effect, sending your story spinning off towards unforeseen consequences.”

The climax of the trailer is a moment in which the player can decide to jump alone or push their friend off a cliff. We’ll see how subtle the sequel ends up being.

While Supermassive Games made the first Until Dawn, the new game is being made by Firesprite. The UK-based studio, which Sony bought in 2021, previously shipped Horizon Call of the Mountain for PS VR2 in 2023. Until Dawn 2 will be the studio’s first new game in four years once it arrives in 2027.
