Halo 4 Players Are Getting (Sort of) Banned For Downloading a Halo 4 Map Pack

The farce surrounding the release of Halo 4's Crimson Map Pack has got a whole lot more farcical, with some users complaining that those who downloaded and began playing the pack for free—like Microsoft told them to—are being banned from certain portions of the game.

The game's official forums are full of people saying that, having downloaded and attempted to play the pack, they were getting booted from games and finding their accounts had been banned from some of Halo 4's online features. So, not a total account ban; just a block from playing certain parts of Halo 4 online.

Responding to the flood of complaints, a moderator has issued the following response:

We are not permanently banning players for previewing or purchasing the Crimson Map Pack. We are currently investigating the recent reports of permanent matchmaking bans.

We will provide further updates tomorrow. Thank you for your patience.

In other words "sorry, office is empty, we'll get back to you on Monday morning when everyone comes back to work". Hang tight, Halo players!
