Remember when Rockstar officially revealed in-game footage of GTA 6 in that Netflix special, and Stephen Root’s voice was prominently heard playing one of the characters? Well, you might want to sit down, but Stephen Root has just officially revealed that he’s playing a character in GTA 6!
This comes via a brief interview with Root by AP, in which it directly asks the incredibly famous man with his incredibly distinctive voice if he is indeed appearing in November 19’s all-consuming video game. “Yeeaahhh, you’re gonna see me in that,” said Root.
Root does go on to point out that even a year ago people were aware he was going to be in Grand Theft Auto VI, based on how recognizable his voice acting is, not least from King of the Hill. He’ll be playing Brian Heder, a drug trafficker and key character in the protagonist’s adventures.
Root has been a significant presence in movies and on TV for the last four decades, from his legendary appearance as Milton in Office Space to appearing in 97 episodes of News Radio, onto defining roles in (to name just a handful) O Brother, Where Art Thou?, King of the Hill, The West Wing, No Country For Old Men, True Blood, Justified, The Man in the High Castle, and most recently turning in incredible performances in Barry and Widow’s Bay. Oh, and about a billion voice acting projects.
So yes, when Stephen Root appeared in the Netflix footage, it does seem the majority response was, “Ah yes, Stephen Root is definitely in this game.” And now it’s official!
The game is released November 19 at midnight, and that’s midnight where you live in the world.
