Just when you thought it was safe, more Grand Theft Auto leaks have hit the timeline. This time around it’s an older leak being more widely dumped across the internet, and among the many gigabytes of data, fans have fished out our first real look at Rockstar’s apparent plans to add Liberty City to Grand Theft Auto 5, as well as some early development content of Grand Theft Auto 6 from back in 2015.
First, a little history. Back in 2022, there was a massive GTA 6 leak that revealed early looks at the still very much in-development open-world sequel. Before being arrested by police, the leaker reportedly sold an older build of GTA 5 and other leaked GTA 6 files to someone on Telegram. These files were mostly kept private, bouncing around between trusted members of the community or people in the know. However, on September 17, it appears someone with access to all 190 GB of leaked content finally posted it online for everyone else to look at, and GTA fans have quickly jumped in and pulled out some interesting tidbits.
Perhaps the most exciting discovery was new files that reveal more about a never-realized Liberty City expansion for GTA 5. As explained in this video from TJGM, there appear to be some audio-related assets and code in the newly public leak that indicate that at some point Rockstar was looking to bring all of Liberty City to GTA 5 and/or GTA Online. While we had heard rumors of this, and there was even a screenshot from a Rockstar employee’s portfolio seemingly showing GTA 4‘s Liberty City running in GTA 5‘s version of the RAGE engine, this is the best confirmation yet that this DLC or expansion was actually in the works.
Elsewhere in the massive leak, people have found mission names and assets from the cancelled Agent Trevor DLC, which was a planned single-player expansion that would have starred Trevor and had him working with the government. It would have featured a space station, fancy mansions, jetpacks, and more. Some of this content was likely repurposed into GTA Online updates, like the Doomsday Heist, but this is the first time we’ve seen some of this unfinished DLC content publicly shared online.
There’s also information in this leak about Michael’s canned expansion which, as we’ve known for many years, was going to feature zombies. The leaked files seem to indicate that Rockstar was possibly going to let players control Michael’s teenage offspring. And over on the GTA Forums, people are finding beta cars and unfinished vehicle assets, including what looks to be a nearly complete combine harvester.
New GTA 6 leaks
Another intriguing part of this big leak is a very early build of what seems like Grand Theft Auto 6‘s full map. However, based on information included in the data, it seems this version of the map was created back around 2015, making it over a decade old. You might think that would mean it’s out of date, but people have started to compare locations from the leak to areas seen in the recent GTA 6 extended look, and it appears that not much has changed beyond the visuals improving and more details being added and refined.

These leaked looks at GTA 6‘s old map seem to show a version of the game that was being built and tested in GTA 5’s engine, which, if accurate, would be a fascinating glimpse at how Rockstar prototypes its massive open worlds. The leaks also seem to suggest that we’ve still yet to see a large portion of GTA 6‘s full map. If you want to go in unspoiled on some of the locations waiting for you in Vice City, I’d advise you not to go looking at the leaks floating around on Twitter and Reddit right now.
I expect Take-Two lawyers are already hard at work going after some of these leaks, and so a lot of what is being shared today probably won’t be around for long. Regardless, it really does seem like Grand Theft Auto 6 has become one of the most leaked video games in history. Between the 2022 leaks, the Cyberleak gameplay videos this summer, and now this big dump of GTA 6 content, information about Rockstar’s upcoming game continues to dribble out across the internet despite the company’s best efforts.
Thankfully for fans (and Rockstar), the wait for GTA 6 is nearly over. The game launches in less than 10 weeks, on November 19 on Xbox and PS5. Will GTA 6 leak one more time before then? Odds are, yeah, probably.
