Grand Theft Auto is typically known for its licensed music, but the series has also featured its share of original tracks created for the games. Grand Theft Auto 6 is following suit, and getting a double album’s worth of songs written for Rockstar’s upcoming crime drama. The irony of it all is that, while the game itself is being shipped out as codes in a box, the soundtrack is getting an actual CD and vinyl release. Ain’t that some shit?
The soundtrack will launch alongside the game on November 19, and is coming to both streaming services and stores in the form of a CD and a special edition vinyl. Some songs have been released today to promote the album, including:
- Yung Lean – “That’s It” (feat. Future & Metro Boomin)
- Travis Scott – “RHYNO” (prod. by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo)
- CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso, PinkPantheress, Fred again.. & Etienne de Crécy – “Sexy Magic”
- Morgan Wallen – “Last Thing You Need”
- Rauw Alejandro – “Macacoa 2000”
- Keith Richards – “Bright Lights, Big City”
The full album will feature 34 tracks, and two of the vinyl records will be exclusive to the game’s official site, while retailers like Best Buy are also getting their own original variants.
Some of these tunes are clearly written to reflect and accompany the action, violence, and debauchery that GTA is known for, but others seem specifically catered toward the game’s romance between leads Jason and Lucia. The Morgan Wallen song especially sounds like something that might play in the background after the two have had a big blow-out fight and Jason is driving around and reflecting on how he’s a shit boyfriend or something. Bear in mind that there are still 28 songs yet to be revealed, so if these don’t jive with you, maybe some of the many tunes Rockstar will likely unveil between now and November 19 will.
