This is the question asked by developer Piranha Bytes in their upcoming RPG project, Risen. Formerly known only as Project RPB, the team has just announced the new name along with the back story I've already given you and the requisite quote from publishing partner Koch Media.

DISCUSSION

Now i'm really looking forward to the games convention

Gothic 1 and 2 were great and Gothic 3 is simply unfinished. I still think Phiranha Bytes was rushed by their old publisher Jowood who had grave problems with their market results that time (no idea if they still have) and so an unfinished game was thrown on the market.

Also when you read the interviews of PB people, they see that they made many design mistakes (e.g. a large world is not necessarily better than a small one, because of the resulting lack of detail. Or a free world where you can do what you want is not always better as when you have some restrictions, because you can't tell a dense story that way)

So, i'm confident that Risen will be a good game, more than about Gothic 4 where they again promise a huge world and stuff like that.
