Most cosplayers do their costume-making several degrees of separation away from the professional designers who create the big-budget looks they emulate. So they don't get the chance to hear what the concept artists and visual effects maestros think of fan-made work. But, some of the folks who've worked on the Hobbit movies recently got to see Tolkien-inspired cosplay up close and they love it.
The filmmakers at Cosplay Boom interviewed Hobbit visual artisans Richard Taylor, Lindsey Crummett and Andrew Baker, along with cosplayers wearing outfits that reflect the work that's gone into the latest adaptations of the famous Middle-Earth novels. It's a great thing to see the line between pro and fan get crossed so amicably.
Mr. Taylor likes it. Really.
