CD Projekt has released update 1.2 for The Witcher 2 on the PC, featuring more than 30 significant changes and fixes to the game, including the ability for Geralt to swap between six different looks via in-game barber shops.
I was reading the review on PC Gamer UK, and while it was pegged for a 92% review, 1 hour before the credits fell, the reviewer was left with "Wut?" feeling. The reviewer said while the game was suitably epic up to that point, so good that the bugged descriptions and quests were minor for such an awesome story and graphics, but at the end, major plot lines were left, characters ignored and it felt like they had only done half a game. I mean it SOUNDS like to me, that the devs wanted to do a much bigger game or in fact there WAS a bigger game, but due to time restraints they were forced to cut it in half and try. I mean Witcher2 is Three Chapters long, The Witcher was 5. That seems a bit of a :S. I hope it is a case of the "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows" film syndrome, where they felt they couldn't make the ending worthy by cramming it into one game. Therefore, they cut this game in half, and plan to release an expansion pack.
I'd love that, because Geralt and his chums are some of the most enjoyable characters I've met in game. They all feel right, they feel they are in place. Geralt isn't invincible, that is shown with the combat (which I find more enjoyable, but after my 2nd play through of The Witcher, I was stuck in the single target combat mode). At the start of the game (Witcher 2) you get your ass kicked by anymore than 3 enemies, but after the first 5 or so levels, you then struggle to die, even on normal. Just bring Swallows and you're sorted. Only bosses will require more. Of course, if you're doing Harder or above you'll need to pop more than just Swallow. The main reason for the difficulty early on is that your swords are pretty pathetic, even imported swords from The Witcher are crap (Best Steel Sword in The Witcher was 100% bonus damage, it gives you +2Min/Max damage) and so on. You can get overwhelmed by groups and since your signs also suck ass and you take 200% extra damage when attacked from behind, it is pretty hard to survive. Just stick at it and after 5 or so levels, you'll be sorted!
Again, I hope the game gets an expansion, 20-30 hours seems small, it took me 50+ hours first run through of The Witcher and 26 hours second run through. Seems too little tbh. So I'm hoping for an expansion.
