Oculus announced today that Kickstarter backers of the original Oculus Rift will receive the final hardware—for free! It’s a nice gesture towards virtual reality’s biggest evangelists the day before pre-orders officially begin for the Oculus Rift. The biggest problem? We still don’t know how much it’ll cost. Oculus has announced that its Touch controllers won’t ship until the “second half” of 2016. The Oculus Rift itself, however, is apparently still on track for early next year. The delay is disappointing; the Touch devices were the highlight of my last VR demo.

When the Oculus Rift finally ships next year, it’ll come with a free copy of the impressive VR platformer, Lucky’s Tale. It remains one of the better VR demos I’ve played—the ability to look around the world with the headset while controlling the character was neat—but it remains to be seen how great of a platformer… Read more
