This morning, Mrs. Bashcraft's grandfather passed away. Today the family is attending a wake. Tomorrow there will be a funeral service.
Funerals in Japan are both cathartic and emotionally and mentally draining. (For those who missed my description of the last funeral I attended, you can read it here.)
Her grandfather was not eating and had not been well for some time, but seemed as though he was on the rebound of sorts. Or everyone hoped he was. The last time Mrs. Bashcraft saw her grandfather, she said he squeezed her hand with all his might and would not let go. Neither would I.
As much as I love this world, I sincerely hope he is in a better place and is at peace. He will be missed.
