There are plenty of regular people who have become internet legends through their video game exploits. Elden Ring’s Let Me Solo Her, World of Warcraft’s Leeroy Jenkins, and that dude killed Lord British in Ultima Online; all regular joes who have captivated the hearts by transcending the faceless boundaries of multiplayer games. However, those three are all loved by their respective communities, which is why the legend of Forza Horizon 6’s Bowie Knife99 is a unique example, as this person has become so hated that even the official Xbox–sorry, XBOX–social accounts are talking smack about them.
If you’re not familiar with the Forza games, then you may be unaware of the series’ “Drivatar” mechanic. Drivatars are essentially AI recreations of real players. The more you play Forza Horizon 6, the more it will learn about you, like when you choose to brake when turning a corner, or how aggressive you are on the track. Your Drivatar is then pitted against real players online in races, and it seems that everyone is getting matched with a psychopath called Bowie Knife99.

There are threads discussing this maniac everywhere. Reddit, X, Steam–no matter where you look, you will find posts complaining about the menace that is Bowie Knife99. According to those who have encountered them, Bowie Knife99 is both extremely skilled and relentlessly cruel.
For whatever reason, everyone seems to be running into them, too. There are hundreds of unique posts and clips featuring Bowie Knife99, usually doing something unhinged, to the point that it seems as if Forza Horizon 6’s matchmaking system is favouring the player in some way. The Drivatar has become such a meme within the community that even the official XBOX UK X account got in on the joke earlier this morning, tweeting “Happy Bank Holiday Monday to everyone except bowie knife99.”

Of course, the funniest part of all this is that unless Bowie Knife99 is as terminally online as the rest of us, they might not even be aware of how much they’ve been upsetting people online. Someone on X has taken it upon themselves to create a Bowie Knife99 X account and taunt the people smacktalking them, but who knows if that’s actually the real Bowie. Godspeed, you lunatic.
